Above & Beyond:
MotherTongues commits to excellent customer service and respectful and equitable
relationships with customers, vendors, and suppliers. Committed to social well-being,
$1 of every t-shirt, apron or tote bag sold is donated to non-governmental organizations
supporting especially women and children whose ethos reflects the ethos of MotherTongues.
We have given $1000 in 2008 to the Center for Women in Transition - see www.aplaceforwomen.org.
How we choose our apparel
We do a lot of research about companies before we
buy t-shirts from them. Both companies that we buy from, have certifications
for
the cotton (certified organic cotton from Control Union) and for the labor
(certified Fair Trade by FLO: www.fairtrade.net).
How we try to be responsible
to the earth
Our packaging varies from re-used boxes, USPS Priority Mail packaging
(which has just been awarded Cradle to Cradle Certification) when shipping
more
than 2 t-shirts, to tear-proof polyolefin envelopes. The envelopes are
the lightest
option available and thus use less fuel for delivery. Our plan is to
keep changing one step at a time and to keep trying to find better options.
The
shipping labels
on packages are printed on 100% recycled sticker labels.
All hang
tags used to describe the words/concepts on the apparel, are printed on 100%
post consumer
waste paper.
