  • A portion of our energy is wind-powered
  • We are diligent reusers and recyclers, plus we buy recycled supplies and equipment
  • We compost our food waste
  • Our lightbulbs are compact flourescent
  • Our shipping supplies are either reused or made from recycled or biodegradable material
  • We contribute to environmental and social organizations, including Birth Defect Research for Children, Citizens for Midwifery and Healthy Child Healthy World
Did You Know:

Most brands of cosmetics, perfume, lotion, nail polish and hair care products contain phthalates (pronounced THAL-ates). The use of these chemical compounds is so wide spread, in fact, that a study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found metabolized forms of dibutyl phthalates (DBP) in every single person tested. More alarming was that the highest concentrations of phthalates—in levels exceeding the federal safety standard—were found in women of childbearing age. Phthalates are xenoestrogens—chemicals that act in the body like the hormone estrogen. Xenoestrogens have been linked to genital abnormalities in boys, early onset of puberty and breast development in girls, infertility and low sperm count, birth defects and cancers. Women trying to conceive, who are pregnant or who have infants should take care to limit exposure to phthalates and other xenoestrogens.
