Our hope is that the new economy will be deeply rooted in green and socially responsible commerce. By supporting the merchants on Pristine Planet you are making that hope a reality. The revenue generated from your purchase goes directly to green businesses, which in turn is reinvested into organic agriculture, fair trade, and sustainable business practices, all of which benefit the planet and the economy. Rewarding environmentally and socially responsible companies should be as easy as possible, for that is truly the only way that consumers can send a positive message to industry that cannot be ignored.

A simple purchase may not seem like much, but the reality is, your purchase creates ripples in the economy. When enough people support companies with a triple bottom line (people, planet, profit), these ripples will have a profound impact on society and the planet. So the next time you are faced with a decision to buy a product, decide what kind of splash you would like to create.

All products listed on Pristine Planet must adhere to at least one of our proprietary tags before being accepted into our online catalog. We understand that there is no universal definition for "green" and every product has a footprint so our tagging guidelines are meant to assist you in making informed decisions. We do not define green for you, instead we present the information and allow you to shop based on your personal shade of green. After all, one person's organic sun grown coffee can be a bird habitat protector's nemesis. We want to welcome everyone who is striving to make their world a better place.

Bernie Wellman - Accounts Manager
With parents who had lived through the Great Depression and World War II, Elizabeth (Bernie) Wellman grew up during a time in the United States when living green came naturally -- including pure water from rain barrels, organic vegetables from family gardens, and free-range chickens. As an adult, she worked in various customer service roles, and at the age of 50 Bernie returned to college in the Midwest, graduating cum laude with a degree in computer information systems. This education provided a solid foundation for an internship in the networking lab at her college. Combined with her experience in customer support and a stellar commitment to customer satisfaction, she has the ideal skills for her current position as Accounts Manager for Pristine Planet, which has proven integral to the company's success. Away from work, she finds time for gardening, as well as for her husband, two adult daughters and two grandsons.

Michael J. Ross - Newsletter Editor
Michael grew up in the Pacific Northwest, with parents who were active in hiking, camping, and bicycling (his father, a professor, used to cycle to work more than 47 miles roundtrip, even in three inches of snow). Profoundly influenced by the writings of Thoreau, Michael continues to live quite frugally, with minimal impact on the environment. As a freelance Web developer, Michael creates websites for small businesses. With more than one thousand published works to his credit, Michael is also a freelance writer, and was asked by Cathy Finn to start the Pristine Planet newsletter, and serve as its editor. The monthly newsletter began in November 2004, and since then has seen continuous publication -- featuring environmental news articles (some covering topics years before the mainstream media) and well-received profiles of member companies.
